Now, with Josh and Zac leaving the band they created and named and invited Hayley to join, all that’s left of Paramore is the truth. Despite street cred from an indie label, despite humble origins in a garage, despite Hayley’s personal dreams, despite badges from relentless touring, Paramore is a factory-raised, label-owned pop star, pretending to be a rock band.
As much as it isn’t “cool” or “indie” for me to give a shit about the Paramore break-up (in defense, I still kind of don’t), this article is an amazing case study into how fucked up the entire pop process can be to all parties involved. After reading this I came to the conclusion that there is not a single member of Paramore that is “happy” with anything that has occurred over the past decade to their lives.
In addition, Tumblr has a lot of teenagers. This is a fact. And with masses of teenagers comes masses of Paramore fans. Another fact. And a lot of Paramore fans are probably confused as fuck as to what happened aside from “two of the founding members left and had a whinge about it”. Maybe this piece will give them some clarity, albeit through the eyes of a cynical music writer.
