Slow News Day of the Day: A marquee in Boise, Idaho, announcing a September 11th concert by instrumental post-rock band Explosions in the Sky is causing some controversy because we’ve apparently run out of things to be upset about.
NBC New York called the concert “poorly timed” and reminded readers that “thousands of New Yorkers still suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder from the twin airplane explosions.”
Egyptian Theatre booking manager Joy Hart doesn’t really get what NBC New York is on about. “I think it’s unfortunate that the band is being equated with the tragic events of 9/11 in 2001,” she told local NBC affiliate KTVB. “It is absolutely a coincidence.”
Hart says not a single person has come forward to complain.

Now, with Josh and Zac leaving the band they created and named and invited Hayley to join, all that’s left of Paramore is the truth. Despite street cred from an indie label, despite humble origins in a garage, despite Hayley’s personal dreams, despite badges from relentless touring, Paramore is a factory-raised, label-owned pop star, pretending to be a rock band.
As much as it isn’t “cool” or “indie” for me to give a shit about the Paramore break-up (in defense, I still kind of don’t), this article is an amazing case study into how fucked up the entire pop process can be to all parties involved. After reading this I came to the conclusion that there is not a single member of Paramore that is “happy” with anything that has occurred over the past decade to their lives.
In addition, Tumblr has a lot of teenagers. This is a fact. And with masses of teenagers comes masses of Paramore fans. Another fact. And a lot of Paramore fans are probably confused as fuck as to what happened aside from “two of the founding members left and had a whinge about it”. Maybe this piece will give them some clarity, albeit through the eyes of a cynical music writer.

Lately I’ve been going for a 45 minute walk each lunchtime while I listen to an album. In the spirit of Twelve Major Chords’ One Sentence Reviews, here’s what I have got through so far:
Mon: Owl City - Ocean Eyes
People keep comparing these guys to the Postal Service, but this just has a way more auto-tuned pop feel to it.
Tues: Jeffrey Lewis and The Junkyard - Em Are I
Jeffrey may be straying from his raw, anti-folk roots but he still manages to write clever, catchy indie rock tunes.
Wed: Lights - The Listening
Canada has it’s answer to Kylie - if Kylie couldn’t choose between electro pop and indie that is.
Thurs: Laura Veirs - July Flame
I’d be surprised if anyone referred to this as Laura’s strongest release - it’s really just more of the same.
Fri: Girls - Album
This album + deck chairs + Beefeater 24 and tonic with cucumber = #radsummer.
