A Coachella Alphabet: Interpol

Interpol

Name: Interpol
Genre: Indie
Day: Friday

Wikipedia sez: “Interpol is an American indie rock band, formed in 1998. The members of the band are Paul Banks (vocals, rhythm guitar), Daniel Kessler (lead guitar, back vocals), Carlos Dengler (bass), and Sam Fogarino (drums). Their debut album Turn on the Bright Lights was critically acclaimed, while the follow-up, Antics, has been both a critical and commercial success. The band’s sound is a mix of bass throb and choppy, sparse guitar, drawing constant comparisons to post-punk bands Joy Division, The Chameleons and Kitchens of Distinction.”

So, what’s the difference between Interpol and Bloc Party? They both have pretty similar downbeat sounds, but Interpol actually sound decent live. Also unlike Bloc Party, Interpol have only released two albums chock full of solid material over six years whilst touring all across the world. Lead singer Paul Banks manages to sound super serious no matter what he sings, but this works really well with the music anyway. I’m not going to rave about them, but they are worth at least one listen.

Likelyhood of Seeing at Coachella: Yeah why not.

A Coachella Alphabet: Infected Mushroom

Infected Mushroom

Name: Infected Mushroom

Day: Sunday

Wikipedia sez: “Infected Mushroom is an Israeli psychedelic trance duo which has attained significant popularity from the late 1990s to the present time (2007). Formed by Erez Eizen (also known as I.Zen) and Amit Duvdevani (also known as Duvdev) in the city of Haifa, located in the northern parts of Israel, the duo has garnered a large international fanbase. Infected Mushroom are known for their consistent sonic evolution exemplified by the subsequent albums The Gathering (1999), Classical Mushroom (2000), BP Empire (2001), Converting Vegetarians (2003), IM the Supervisor (2004), and Vicious Delicious (2007).”

I work near a JB Hi-Fi, which means every so often you will have someone driving around with their windows down pumping the doof-doof. Infection Mushroom do make doof-doof trance, based around hard base and beep based melodies, with a live singer thrown in now and then. Very mainstream sound for trance too. I can see a lot of people getting down to this, but I get bored pretty quickly from listening to something so hard.
