A Coachella Alphabet: Crowded House

Crowded House

Name: Crowded House
Genre: Rock
Day: Sunday

Wikipedia sez: “Crowded House is a pop-rock group formed in Melbourne, Australia and led by New Zealand musician and singer-songwriter Neil Finn. Originally active between 1985 and 1996, their notable hits from this period include “Don’t Dream It’s Over”, “Something So Strong”, “Better Be Home Soon”, and “Weather with You”. The group announced their reunion in 2007.”

I’m pretty surprised over this one. More surprised that Crowded House are big enough in the States to warrant a reunion for a festival (and eventual tour). Crowded House have some great songs but I’d prefer to see Split Enz if I wanted to see the Finn Brothers in action, so I don’t know if I’ll bother traveling half way around to world to see an act I will be able to see at home in six months time. If Goldenvoice wanted to reform an Australian band.. why couldn’t they reform Hunters & Collectors!?!

Likelyhood of Seeing at Coachella: Doubtful.

A Coachella Alphabet: Cornelius

Cornelius

Name: Cornelius
Genre: Electronic
Day: Saturday

Wikipedia sez: “Cornelius (born Keigo Oyamada (?????) January 27, 1969 in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, Japan) is a Japanese recording artist and producer. Oyamada’s first claim to fame was as a member of the pop duo, Flipper’s Guitar, one of the key groups of the Tokyo Shibuya-kei scene. Following the disbandment of Flipper’s Guitar in 1991, Oyamada donned the “Cornelius” moniker and embarked on a successful solo career. Cornelius’s musical style is often described as being similar to Beck’s, whom he acknowledges as an influence along with The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream and the brazilian band Kassin +2, among others.”

I started off disliking Cornelius. His music isn’t that good, it’s pretty much all over the place while staying relatively simple. But I’ve been watching these videos of him on the web - and the good thing is that he plays them live with his band. Songs like Beep it don’t have a lot of substance, but they are as catchy as hell. The thing about it is that the more Cornelius I find, the more I like it and wonder why I haven’t heard of him before. This guy needs to be talked about more.

Likelyhood of Seeing at Coachella: More then likely.
