A Coachella Alphabet: Comedians of Comedy

Comedians of Comedy Poster

Name: Comedians of Comedy
Genre: Comedy
Day: Friday

Wikipedia sez: “The Comedians of Comedy is an occasional stand-up comedy tour featuring Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, Brian Posehn and Maria Bamford that was documented in a 2005 film and 2005 Comedy Central television series of the same name, both directed by Michael Blieden. Recently, Zach Galifianakis left the tour and has been replaced by comedian Eugene Mirman. The idea behind The Comedians of Comedy — its name a play on The Original Kings of Comedy and similar tours — involves the comedians performing at smaller indie rock venues instead of comedy clubs.”

I could go into a great deal of deal about each of the comedians listed in the above poster (click the link to maximize), so I’m going to keep it nice and short. Don’t meet Patton Oswalt and run material by him - he doesn’t like it. But if you meet Brian Posehn, make sure to get him to sign a can of Tab.

Likelyhood of Seeing at Coachella: I’ll be seeing them.

A Coachella Alphabet: CocoRosie

CocoRosie

Name: CocoRosie
Genre: Indie
Day: Saturday

Wikipedia sez: “CocoRosie are an American musical duo formed by sisters Sierra (Rosie) and Bianca (Coco) Casady in 2003. Stylistically, they may be assigned to the indie rock or psych folk genres, and are sometimes associated with the New Weird America (or freak folk) movement; additional influences include hip hop and Opera. Sierra mainly plays the guitar, piano and harp, and contributes vocals. Bianca sings and manipulates various children’s toys/electronic & percussion instruments. CocoRosie performs as a duo and also with other backing musicians on occasion, usually a bassist and either a drummer or beatboxer.”

So I got this grand idea to make some dough and live on the Upper East Side. We will join up, dress like ice addicts and make really awful music in the guise of art. Hipsters will love it!? CocoRosie has a really odd sound, filled with basic drum beats, out of place samples and horrible singing/rapping that sounds just like a Bjork wannabe. It’s bizarre for the sake of the bizarre, which makes no sense given that the songs follow the standard verse/chorus/verse standard and contain nosense lyrics. I think I’ll stick to Tegan & Sara if I want to listen to musical sisters who play together.

Likelyhood of Seeing at Coachella: Hell no.
