A workmate and I were discussing Air vs The Shins today at work, and he basically wondered what it would be like to hear Air play live at a festival since it’s just elevator music. Sure, the music Godin and Dunckel make is quite breezy and could be classed as music for the chillout bunch, but the truth is that Air make brilliant music that you crave more and more of. “All I Need” off Moon Safari is an instant classic and their latest album is packed full of incredible tracks. Air previously played Coachella in 2004 as the sun set which would of been magic, and I imagine if they repeat this at Coachella 2007 festival goers will be in for something special.

Name: Against Me

Wikipedia sez: “Against Me! is a folk punk band formed in Naples, Florida, later relocated to Gainesville, Florida. The music is a mix between soft rock and punk rock. The vocals change from song to song which adds a nice mystery to what comes next.”

No need to paste the rest of the Wikipedia article, it’s not the most impartial read out there. As for Against Me, they remind me of Flogging Molly except softer, almost with a ballad feel to their songs. That’s not saying they are bad by any means, but it just sounds really half-done. It’s sort of like my take on soft drinks, why bother drinking Diet Coke - either drink the full strength stuff or don’t drink it at all. Wow what a tangent, in summary they sound okay but I doubt I’ll make a point of seeing them.
