Wow remember this, where I’d write about what television I watch of a night? No? Well with new episodes finally back this week I thought I would give a few thoughts on what I watched. Mainly because Sportscenter starts at 12:30 rather then at midnight. Before I start, I’ll just mention how great it was to see a Trump impression on Conan. It’s Uge.
On with the tv ranting. Today: Scrubs, Ricky Gervais Meets.., Kenny vs Spenny, My Super Sweet 16
▼ Show
Scrubs - My House - Given the House parody I am incredibly tempted to say how great an episode this was but.. it just lacked something. While the House style medical mysteries were very cute (and I can’t get enough of a business card that says “Painter - Call Janitor”), I didn’t really care much for the B-stories involving Kim and J.D. (as if it wasn’t clear enough that she would be leaving) or Carla getting tired of her baby. Some good jokes but this episode seemed to just be one to continue storylines.
Ricky Gervais Meets.. - Christopher Guest - I really enjoyed Gervais meeting Larry David and I was a fan of Best In Show and This Is Spinal Tap, so this should be good right? While Guest is quite funny (in a non-expected way) and Gervais is clearly reeling in meeting the guy, the interview as a whole is horrible. Guest himself says that he doesn’t remember many parts of his own films, so Gervais the master interviewer proceeded to talk about his favourite lines and parts from his past films. Thumbs slightly down.
Ricky Gervais Meets.. - Garry Shandling - I read a whole lot of fuss about this special, how rude Gervais was etc. Sure Gervais was really annoying (constant laughing, comparing him to a cartoon character) but Shandling never gave him the light of day. The interview was better then the one with Guest as we found out a bit more about Shandling’s background and influences (despite Gervais’ poor researcher) but both the interviewer and interviewee seemed very uncomfortable which made for a not so good interview. Thumbs in the middle.
Kenny vs Spenny - Who Can Catch The Biggest Fish? - Kenny vs Spenny has really went over the top this season since moving from free to air to cable, and as a result we have seen some crazy competitions (Who can make the better porno or Who can produce more semen). Fortunately this is a return to the KvS of old, with Kenny double-tricking Spenny by pre-catching a fish, filming it and presenting the evidence to Kenny as proof while pushed overboard. Some real dumb humour was great too (”May-day! May-day! Spenny’s mother’s a whore!”). Thumbs up!
Kenny vs Spenny - Who Can Imitate The Other Guy Better? - This sounded great in concept but wasn’t so good in execution. While Spenny’s impersonation of Kenny was great, it too quickly fell apart due to Kenny’s plan of defaming Spenny via impersination. The poo-eating would be over the top, but given Spenny tripped out on LSD and Kenny faked his mother’s death it didn’t seem to bad. Spenny let himself down in the end by worrying more about what Kenny was doing then what he was doing himself, and that’s why he lost. Thumbs in the middle.
My Super Sweet 16 - Season 4 Preview - I can see why this episode was a preview episode, it wasn’t very good. Another spoilt kid with a trophy wife/mother (”I would of loved to wear that when I was 16!”) having a pretty dull party. Her pants falling while doing her special dance was a mixture of funny and meh (ditto to how the crowd took it). No real shocker for her parents to get her the Bentley that she wanted. With that said, the preview to the new season looks really good (Props to the mother for “We be ballin!”).
Still To Watch: The Simpsons, The Apprentice, Kenny vs Spenny, My Super Sweet 16: Reunion, Poker After Dark (more on that in another post)
