My top ten TV episodes of 2006

So here we go, LIST-O-MANIA entry #1. Since most television has gone on break until next year (and the chances of The Panel Christmas Wrap getting on the list is highly unlikely) I can safely list my favourite ten episodes of the television I watched in 2006. All episodes must of aired between January 1 and December 31, 2006 to apply and the entries are only based on programmes I watched (so that’s why a few big name shows are missing). The entries will probably contain spoilers, so be careful.

Since Christmas is tomorrow, I wish all a merry and safe one and to not get too blotto (or full of ham).

I have tennis elbow

I’ve overdone it, too much Wii action. My elbow is feels quite tender, so I’ll give the Wii a rest for the next few days.

My ISP recently changed bandwidth providers, so my internet access is slow. Watching YouTube is impossible.

I’ve got the next sixteen days off work. Since it’s also the end of the year, it may just be time for.. LIST-O-MANIA!

Bye for now.

What Wii Need - Three points Nintendo have to think about over the next twelve months

Today at work I came across this article on the SMH tech blog. I ended up reading most of the comments and apart from the various fanboi’s talking down the Wii (just do a search for the words “girl”, “kiddie”, “toy” or phrase “younger generation”) many of the thoughts saw the console for what it was, a way to expand the gaming market to a new range of players. Other readers commented that the novelty of the motion sensitive controller has worn off already. Personally, I find myself playing Wii Sports at least half an hour a day simply for the Fitness mode. But Nintendo can’t rely on Wii Sports to keep these casual gamers interested forever. They also can’t also forget about the hardcore gamers, the type who bought the console on launch day and probably bought your opponents machines on launch too. Listed are three points that Nintendo need to consider over the next twelve months for both the casual and hardcore gamer.

Let me program rage

I like rage. I like it a lot. One of my dreams in my lifetime would be to host an episode of rage on a Saturday night, the night usually dedicated to actual music artists. I mean, lesser people then me who are not music artists have hosted in the past *cough* Wil Anderson *cough*. Yeah I know he hosted Triple J breakfast for a while, but he’s not even funny and he still managed to host! Hell ABC, I’ll make it easier for you and type up a play list of videos I’d show.

Now I know the chances of someone from the ABC, let alone someone who works with rage are slim to nil. So I wrote up a letter explaining who I am and why I should host. You can view it below:

My letter to rage on why I should guest host.

To have a look at the play list of what would appear if I hosted rage, click the link below.

I’ll keep you updated if I get a reply.

Sick day (both body and mind)

So last night on my way home I decided to get myself a nice donar kebab for dinner. As usual, lettuce tomato onion and a generous amount of garlic sauce. It’s okay, meat is a little cold but it’s from a store “Victoria’s Best Kebabs” so it must be good right? 5:45 am and I have an upset stomach, time to sit on the toilet for a little while. 40 minutes later, and I’m back in bed - for about five minutes. Back to the toilet, back to bed, back to the toilet, this happens a few more times. At this stage it’s about 8:30 and I decide to have a day off. Ring up work quickly, then back to the toilet. At about 10am I’m done so I go right to bed. Unfortunately, it’s too late. I can’t sleep. After a shower, I get dressed and check out Full Tilt to see what’s going on. Turns out today is the last day to qualify for the Aussie Millions, so I decide to give it one last crack. $69+$6 tournament, let’s go.

Wrist straps? We don’t need no freaking wrist straps!

Wrist straps? We don't need no freaking wrist straps!

Poor Danny Gilbert.

He just lost control and boom, broken glass everywhere. But the above picture isn’t from some busted window down at his local milk bar. It’s caused by a small piece of plastic which when flung at just the right velocity can cause some major damage.

T-Shirt tales (aka Only thing worse then a person who spams his blog…)

… is a person who then doesn’t make any new entries.

Last few days have been a little bit crazy but my life is back on track now.

I’ve been on a bit of a buying spree for the last few days. Picked up a couple of t-shirts from Panic and one from Ante Up on Wednesday pretty spontaneously. Today I got myself a ticket to Lupe Fiasco’s side show on Australia day which should be really awesome (suprised that the BDO in Sydney isn’t on Australia Day, but there you go). Got myself a 2gb memory card for my Wii from Zazz for a super cheap price. I’m tossing up whether I want to go and see Butterfingers next Friday night and sneak in some poker too. Tickets are cheap so it’s mighty tempting.

Speaking of which - what’s the deal with semi-average acts charging crazy ticket prices!? Lupe came to about $50 today, and while I don’t mind paying for it, I would of expected them to be about $10-15 cheaper. Tenacious D come out next month and as entertaining as they are, you would have to be incredibly hardcore to pay $72 to go and see them. I hear that Weird Al Yankovic puts on an incredible stage show, but $80 a ticket? Come on, Al is good but he’s not superstar level. I realise that it costs a lot to bring these acts to Australia, but the D wouldn’t be out here if they didn’t have a movie to promote. It just seems a bit excessive in the end and really the promoters are turning away potential customers by charging so much. With that said, they might pack the house and get people willing to pay that price. I don’t know, that’s why I’m not a concert promoter.

Back to buying spree. I was looking at the Okayplayer Store and might finally get a couple. Then my sister was looking at the Glarkware store as she was thinking about buying a few shirts and I saw this old favourite of mine. Then I came across a link and saw this which I thought was appropriate for myself, but my sister butted in and said that I was anti-social (I recommend her this one, but she liked this more). Then while watching Trailer Park Boys I saw this and thought “I wonder if they sell that”. They do. And I can’t forget about the ultra cool Boom Headshot hoodie from the Pure Pwange store. And I realise that you can’t start a sentence with the word And, but this is a blog so rules don’t apply.

I’m hooked on the Arctic Monkeys at the moment, since I’ve been listening to Virgin Radio Xtreme I’ve discovered a number of bands that I like (and won’t listen to for much longer - Bloc Party in particular). The Aussie Millions are getting closer and closer and I really need to qualify now if I want to play in the main event, so I think I’ll be hitting the tables particularly hard tommorow afternoon. I have to work out my day’s off if I’m planning on playing in any of the other events, the only one that really intrigues me is the Limit Ohama Hi/Lo event but I don’t think I have that day off. The first batch of tickets have been released for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2007. Apart from the Gala, Debate and RAW Comedy final, only a few local names and Danny Boay have been announced. I plan on going to a ridiculous amount of shows at the festival.
This entry was a bit all over the place, but hey that’s what you have to put up when reading this crud. My planned write up of the Amazing Race finale will come after I re-watch the episode as I forgot what happened (yeah it was that good a finale). I haven’t really watched any other television this week so I’ll probably have a long entry detailing a few shows that I watch in the next few days. TV is on a bit of a break everywhere since Xmas/New Year is coming up and apparently people stop watching it (news to me) so I don’t really have a whole lot to write about on that front.

I think that’s where I am going to leave it today. I have a few rants/article type things I will write about, so add that RSS feed to your favourite website/browser and keep a watch on it. ‘Til then, later.
